The 2018 Premier Camp will challenge Freedom FC players for five days in a competitive and very unique environment
The 2018 Premier Soccer Camp will bring teams and individuals together from Warrenton, Washington D.C., River Soccer Club, and the Eastern Shore to combine for a highly unique competitive training environment. Uniting River Soccer Club's premium facility resources, River Soccer Club’s local teams for evening scrimmages, and local and residential campers, the Premier Camp will provide for a very exclusive camp environment. The River City Soccer Club spends in excess of $100,000 annually to upkeep their stellar facilities and our combined partnership for the 2018 Premier Soccer Camp will make for a quality week of player and team development. The camp will be directed by Kurt Gordon and assisted by Juan Garcia, Technical Director of Freedom FC. The camp staff has managed and directed highly successful residential camps for 10+ years and each have over 15 years of camp experience. The staff has over 60 years of combined soccer experience and will provide a very intensive training environment for individual and team development.
Camp Mission, Goals and Expectations:
Our camp mission is to encourage and challenge players in every session on the pitch or during classroom sessions. We want to maximize their potential and camp experience. However, these camps are for higher-level players and the physical and mental expectations for performance will be elevated. Players will be expected to perform at the highest-level in every session and to be fully engaged in the classroom sessions run by the professional staff. Local and overnight individuals and teams are welcome to apply for the Premier Camp. Each camper will receive a camp training shirt and written coach evaluation. Players are also required to complete performance journals each day which are reviewed by coaches.
Our staff at the Premier Camp is extremely dedicated to making your child’s stay a favorably memorable experience on and off the pitch. The camp experience at this year’s facility should be a special blend of on the pitch quality player development and off the pitch beach and bayside fun in the sun downtime enjoyment. A unique blend for our Premier Camp should be unparalleled to prior camp experiences. In addition, we will have a trainer on staff to administer any medical requirements and needs during your child’s stay.
Camp Directors and Key Staff
Kurt Gordon: Kurt Gordon has been coaching for the past 20 years and is one of the area’s premier youth technical developmental coaches. He was a critical visionary in elevating the FCV U9 to U12 development academy into one of the more successful youth girls’ soccer programs in the region. Kurt is coaching in South County Athletic Association (SCAA).
Juan Garcia: Juan Garcia is technical director for Freedom FC. Juan will be joining in his first year at the camp and we are excited to have Juan make an impact on player development as has been witnessed in Freedom FC’s massive growth and player development.
Peter Mais: Peter Mais was a hit with the players and will be returning for his fifth year. Peter is a homegrown River Soccer Cub player with 4 year collegiate background. Peter is also a coach in the River Soccer Club and on the Delaware State ODP and Region 1 ODP staff and Assistant Coach of Women’s Soccer at Salisbury University. Peter’s experience and energy makes the camp week that much more enjoyable for the campers.
Additional Staff to be announced…
In addition to catering to players with various medical conditions, we recognize that each year we potentially could have campers that have severe allergies to foods and natural environments that could present the need to use an EpiPen or other medications. The medical staff and directors will ensure that the education of our staff on this issue and all children’s safety issues remain a priority. In addition, we have a close working relationship with the catering services on the Eastern Shore that we will provide stringent procedures to prevent cross contaminating foods in preparation and cooking. We will also have a number of residential counselors on site and all staff is aware that they are responsible for the children’s welfare 24/7 while on camp.
CAMP LOCATION: River Soccer Complex – 32221 Gum Road, Frankford DE 19945
Located on the Eastern Shore, fifteen minutes west of Fenwick Island, Delaware River Soccer Complex is a beautiful highly maintained sports facility. For camp purposes, the facility is ideal for a premier camp environment. The rental homes for camper’s overnight stay provide outdoor pools for cooling down after sessions. Local restaurants like McCabe’s Gourmet Market may be used for catering or dining-in meals and will be a unique and pleasurable difference to typical camp cafeteria settings. The goal is to provide a higher end meal environment that serves a quality and healthy service three meals a day, including accommodating players with special dietary needs and severe food allergies. River Soccer broke ground last summer on another athletic facility upgrade by installing a FOURTH new Bermuda grass field which will be available to 2018 campers. Many of us got a first look at the development of this project during our camp this past summer.
